The songs of Jez Lowe are the songs of his native North East England, of the people and places, their loves and their lives. Regardless of their specific themes and locality, their appeal is universal; they are among the most widely-sung by musicians and singers on the folk music circuit, not only in Britain, but all over the world. Jez himself is one of the scene's most popular performers, both solo and with The Bad Pennies. Jez is also one of the busiest people on the folk music circuit, regularly touring Britain, Europe, the US, Canada, and Australia. His songs have been recorded by scores of other artists, including Fairport Convention, The Tannahill Weavers, The Black Family, The McCalmans, Cherish the
Ladies, Gordon Bok, Iain MacIntosh, Cindy Mangsen, The Dubliners, and The Clancy's. Jez has now recorded 15 CDs!

"The music of Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies is borne out of the once-industrialised North East of England, with
influences ranging from the pipe-tunes of the Northumberland border country, the band's own Irish ancestry, the strong tradition of socially aware songwriters from that part of the country, to the pop and rock melodies of their youth." — Folk Roots, London 1996

"Acoustic simplicity coupled with electric vitality" —- Time Out, London 1991

"...he has, at last, proved to the folks back home what everybody else (on 'the folk circuit' - all over the world) has known for years: that Jez Lowe is a fabulous entertainer, a warm-hearted communicator and a peerless chronicler of life in the North East." —- Colin Harper, Folk Roots Magazine 3/96 (feature story)

"A quiet unassuming genius, his material is possessed of an engaging warmth, where his voice caresses his chiming,
lilting, timeless compositions." —- Sean McGhee, Rock 'N Reel Magazine

"Lowe has the ultimate songwriter's gift of bringing his characters and scenes to vivid life. Few have his gift, and fewer still are 100% on the money with each and every song. The tunes are melodic, the musicianship tastefully impressive, and the vocals crisp and clean, with that delightful Geordie accent shining throughout." —- Steve Edge, Rogue Folk Review
