Text Box: This wonderful mother-son American traditional music duo will be performing at an
intimate house concert in Berkeley for the first time!

Sara Grey grew up in New Hampshire, but has lived in Scotland for the past 38 years, bringing traditional American music with her. She’s been a mainstay of the UK folk scene, singing ballads from America, Ireland, and Scotland and accompanying herself by frailing a 5-string banjo. She’s got over 12 CDs to her name, and performs non-stop at festivals and folk clubs across the UK. Although she travels to the East Coast of the US once or twice a year, she far less frequently performs in California. It’ll be great to have her here!

Kieran Means, as Sara’s son, has been immersed in folk music all of his life. He was born in the US, but grew up in
Britain gaining a great love of the music of both traditions as well as the contemporary scene. In addition to being a brilliant interpreter of traditional songs, he has written some wonderful songs that blend effortlessly with the rest of his repertoire. Kieran accompanies himself on guitar and has a voice as smooth as silk. He’s recorded 2 CDs of his own, as well as accompanying Sara on several of her CDs.

For the past few years, Kieran and Sara have been touring as a duo, accompanying each other both vocally and
instrumentally. This is only one of two Northern California concerts, so be sure not to miss it!

“An evening in [Sara’s] company is akin to sitting in a friend’s kitchen, drinking her wine and sharing her songs and stories. When it comes to an end, you feel at peace with the world.” - Mick Tems, Taplas

“Kieron… has written some crackers, as the three that are found on his two albums testify: The Shark Song, I Worry For This World and One Day.” —- FRoots Magazine, March 2007

“The outstanding thing… is the singing. Sara’s narration of Derry Dems of Arrow is ballad singing at its best; Kieron’s voice has that haunting quality that stays with you and is really plaintive on pieces such as Drunkard’s Lonely Child. The highest moments… are when they sing together…” —- FRoots Magazine, March 2007
