David broke into the Scottish folk scene in 2006 with his rootsy folk songs which blend socially conscious original songs with traditional material. His gorgeous voice, strong & catchy melodies, and commitment to social issues immediately win over audiences, and have resulted in him winning several major awards in the UK. Although only on the folk scene for 5 years, he has performed at dozens of major UK folk festivals (including Celtic Connections, Sidmouth, Towersey, Tolpuddle, Shrewsbury, Fylde, and Gosport), has opened for Richard Thompson, Richie
Havens, Roy Bailey, Julie Felix, and The Handsome Family, and has had his songs covered by Roy Bailey, Sheena Wellington, and Michelle Burke (Cherish the Ladies).

Born to a Scottish father and American mother, David’s music and interests reflect both traditions. David’s first CD includes some amazing self-penned material, with both Scottish and American influences. His second has mostly traditional material focused on the connections between Scottish and American traditional music. Both David’s songwriting and his traditional influences are abundant in his concerts.

“David’s sweet, lyrical delivery transports you from one side of the Atlantic to the other on an unforgettable
journey to the roots of folk. Combining his own material with well-known classics, Ferrard exposes himself as a talented songwriter, equal to those he takes inspiration from. Touching, hypnotic and inspiring: a new star of folk is on the rise.” — Three Weeks (Edinburgh Fringe)

“A one-man transatlantic session…David has an uncanny ability to fuse meaningful words with gorgeous
melodies…who's to say that one day Ferrard's ‘Hills Of Virginia’ won't be mentioned in the same breath as Eric Bogle's ‘And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda’.” — The Sunday Herald – Album Of The Week ****

“…incisive, topical, and appealing. David Ferrard is definitely one to watch.” — Rogue Folk Review (Vancouver)
